Botanical garden

Linz

The design concept is based on a few sensitive interventions in the existing structure, a moderate addition, and a reorganization of functions to improve the quality of the visitor experience and operational processes at the botanical garden. The new entrance building forms the central connecting element between the existing buildings to the west, which house a café and seminar area, and the glass greenhouses planned to the east. The design motif is the gabled roof derived from the greenhouse typology, which floats above the transparent new building as a three-dimensional, space-creating roof structure and opens up clear lines of sight into the historic park. The symmetry axis of the garden is emphasized by centrally located entrances. The existing buildings are only minimally adapted and supplemented with barrier-free access. The entrance building serves as a central distribution point and enables clear visitor guidance to all areas. The forecourt is designed as an open, inviting open space with a clear layout and identity-creating lounge areas.
