The brief called for a building dedicated to AI- and robotics-assisted medical research.
Due to its location along the elevated highway, the design assumes a spatial “catalyst” role in the development of the post-industrial city. The confidently positioned volume aligns itself with the highway bridge structure, shielding the surrounding urban fabric from noise. At the same time, its comb-like structure opens toward the city, creating protected open spaces and well-lit façade surfaces. The individual building wings articulate the overall mass and, through their scale and programmatic organization, support the ongoing structural transformation of the area.
The exterior design reflects the urban context through its layering and scale, while forming a centrally located open space within. The horizontal articulation makes the functional units and the gradation of user groups legible from the outside.
The base opens generously toward the public realm and, with arcades and shared functions such as dining, conference areas, and foyer spaces, forms a vibrant urban fragment with a strong identity.
Spaces for external tenants are arranged around a green courtyard that provides well-lit areas at the center of the building.
The core tenant’s areas are oriented toward a sheltered rooftop terrace. The fourth floor, featuring a robotics laboratory, forms a transparent transition. The terrace acts as a balcony overlooking the city, offering high spatial quality and extending the building with a central open space for communication and social interaction.
The flexible laboratory concept allows for adaptation to the rapidly evolving technologies in contemporary medical research.
