Piazza Telawi

Telawi, Georgia

Georgian towns are known for their huge amount of historical buildings. In the area of the newly developed plaza, a contemporary contrast to historical architecture is to emerge without interfering with it. The architectural concept does not target to blend into the surroundings but to present the new constructions as contemporary and distinct objects. Historical elements are used in an abstract form which guarantees an interweaving of the periods.

The new constructions of the hotel, the restaurant as well as the shops present themselves as “constructed landscape” rather than just buildings. Classical elements of a building like the floor, wall, ceiling and roof are reversed and newly defined by their surprising usability. The plaza is developed as “stage of movement”.
