The existing building is an organic crystalline structure. The strategy takes the idea of organic ‘growth’ and applies it to the entire project. The new structures will be situated so that the solitary character of the building is retained along with the free arrangement of elements. The open exterior edges created are a direct result of the openness of the ground plan, and allow the best possible ease of mobility. The extensions are limited to two stories in height to ensure smooth integration with the existing building and to provide a strong connection between the classrooms and the exterior spaces. To reintroduce a clear structure to the site, later ‘implants’ were removed. Furthermore, some individual elements of the ground plan are removed to allow manifold views of the surroundings, to allow more light to enter, and to create zones that can be used in versatile ways.
