We won first prize in the two-stage EU-wide competition for the Vienna Security Center.
The aim of the project is to create a modern and secure working environment for the Vienna Provincial Police Directorate at the site of the former Albrecht Barracks.

The historic former staff building on Engerthstraße will be renovated, while the remaining buildings will be replaced with new constructions.

The urban design concept links the security requirements of the complex and its closed typology with architectural and urban planning quality standards that call for openness and human-scale proportions. The apparent contradiction between a closed perimeter block development and the perforation of the building mass is resolved through a strategy of stacking building volumes separated by joints.

The height development of the new buildings is guided by the surrounding context.

At the corner of Vorgartenstraße and Sturgasse, the setback of the ground-floor façades creates a forecourt that marks the entrance to the citizen service center as well as to the nearby police station, located close to the subway station.
