highrise “Weitblick”

Vienna

The hotel and office high-rise “Weitblick” is the result of an intensive planning process that began in 2013 with an urban development framework and culminated in 2017 with an international architectural competition won by Mario Cucinella Architects. Further planning was carried out in collaboration with Zechner & Zechner.

The “WEITBLICK” tower, with its clear, streamlined form, stands in deliberate contrast to its neighboring residential tower “Grünblick.” A green canopy connects the two buildings into a cohesive ensemble and marks the entrance to the VIERTEL ZWEI district.

Rising 125 meters on an elliptical floor plan, the tower emphasizes its verticality through its vertically articulated façade. The longitudinal axis is oriented along the prevailing wind direction to minimize downdrafts. The lower third of the building accommodates a hotel, while office spaces occupy the upper floors. A rooftop bar with terrace crowns the structure.

A double-skin glass façade provides wind protection and allows for flexible solar shading outside the thermal envelope.

The building is powered by a local district heating and cooling network based on a geothermal system with heat pumps , it features thermally activated structural components.
