As part of a study, the implementation options for a new training campus for the specialist training of ÖBB employees in St. Pölten area were examined. As a result, a representative educational campus of Austria’s largest mobility provider is now available.
The training center essentially consists of 2 parts, a seminar and practice wing and an hotelroom wing. In the seminar wing there are training rooms and rooms with model and simulation systems. Here and in the outdoor areas with the training model hall, track construction hall and shunting tracks, more than 500 people from railway-specific professional groups are trained every day. 240 single rooms are available for course participants who travel further afield.
The two functional groups are structurally separated into two zones. On the upper floors, the rooms are situated in a U-shaped wing in a “cut open” block development, while the training rooms are in a longitudinal wing. The extensive and shared functions like the restaurant are situated on the ground floor. The courtyard opens to the north to the open-air site. The architectural design concept provides clear-cut structures, which derive their differentiation through a rhythm of closed and transparent façade parts.
