The historic Villach Brewery has been converted into a modern city brewery. With a history spanning some 160 years, it has shaped the city’s identity for generations. The aim of the project was to carefully build on this industrial heritage whilst injecting new, vibrant energy into the city centre.
As part of the conversion, the brewery was expanded from a purely production facility into an open venue for experiences. Guided tours, tastings and seminars allow visitors to experience the brewing process first-hand and create a direct link between craftsmanship, history and the public.
The historic building fabric was carefully renovated, supplemented and brought into line with modern technical requirements. In this way, the characteristic charm of the existing building is preserved, whilst the brewery is repositioned as a contemporary, inviting venue.
Zechner & Zechner were responsible for the implementation of the project in collaboration with the main contractor Dywidag.
