The residential high-rise “Pier 05” is located directly on the lakeside promenade in Seestadt Aspern. An approx. 15.5 m high base forms the “floe”, which marks the striking lake-side corner. A two-storey arcade will be built along both lake fronts, forming a covered outdoor area for restaurants and cafes on the ground floor.
The approx. 80 m high tower grows out of the base, the front of which recedes from the edge of the base on the lake side and can be found as a glass facade behind the arcade on the ground floor. The strictly cubic form of the base lake front is contrasted with a softer curved facade of the tower.
The residential tower has surrounding balconies whose parapets are clad with bright photovoltaic elements. Trellises and wind protection elements structure the facade. The skeleton construction of the tower allows flexible subdivision into different sized apartment types. Roofs are used as green roof terraces, a pool on the top roof terrace is available to all residents.
The highest possible proportion of the primary energy supply is achieved sustainably via photovoltaics, groundwater and geothermal probes. The directly adjacent underground station and large bicycle garages enable gentle mobility.
The competition was carried out together with Vlay-Streeruwitz Architects, who are working on the construction site to the north.
